Inspired by the futuristic nature of space age design, the Orbit Modern Chair offers a womb like-retreat where one can cuddle up with a good book, watch a movie, or listen to a favorite tune. easily capable of matching any decor, this piece has a steel frame with steel base, 360 rotation and comfortable, poly cotton finish with CFS foam.
Designer Yuya Ushida has developed ‘XXXX_’ a transformable furniture system made of a series of contracting and expanding sub-parts. When manipulated, the furniture transforms as needed. Its amorphous natural shape reconfiguring to produce sofas, stools, tables and benches, which are just a few of the pieces that can be created from the eight different elements within the building kit.

Zaha Hadid, architecture and design guru, and winner of the 2004 pritzker prize, unveiled her latest furniture project at the recent Milan Design Week festival. Entitled ‘Multiplicities Exhibition’, and as expected, the design is consistent with the nature of Hadid’s overarching philosophy and is a vibrant composition of visual continuity, with it’s complex geometries and not-so-subtle futuristic influences.

Tel Aviv-based designer Adital Ela doesn’t think so.
The dome shaped stools (and stools they are, in more ways than one…) pictured above, are made entirely of recycled agricultural waste, such as compacted earth, construction debris and certain form of, ehhem, organic waste.
The Milan Furniture Fair, or “Salone Internazionale del Mobile di Milano” in Italian, was first launched in 1961 as the largest trade fair of its kind in the world, showcasing the latest in furniture and design from countries around the world.
The Salone del Mobile, which opened this year this past Tuesday at the Rho fairground and will close Sunday, is rooted in the expansion of Italian manufacturing during the golden era of “la dolce vita” in the 1950s and 1960s, when visionary industrialists collaborated with talented designers to develop technically innovative products in an elegant, modern style.
The current show occupies an area of nearly 230,000 square metres (2,500,000 sq ft), and includes 2,500 companies, along with 700 young designers at the Salone Satellite, a secondary satellite exhibit. About 338,000 people attended the fair in 2012, more than in 2011, but less than 2008’s record of 383,793 visitors.

If you are not familiar with the concept of drafting and drafting chairs, seeing one for the first time could prompt you to wonder if the designers were just a wee-bit distracted when they rolled out this particular model. They truly do seem like a chair design gone wrong. The truth is however, drafting chairs are a god-send for all engineers and workplace professionals who work long hours at tall or oddly shaped desks and tables.
