The 411 On The Milan Furniutre Fair, The Hottest Trade Show In The Industry.

April 12, 2013

The Milan Furniture Fair, or “Salone Internazionale del Mobile di Milano” in Italian, was first launched in 1961 as the largest trade fair of its kind in the world, showcasing the latest in furniture and design from countries around the world.

The Salone del Mobile, which opened this year this past Tuesday at the Rho fairground and will close Sunday, is rooted in the expansion of Italian manufacturing during the golden era  of “la dolce vita”  in the 1950s and 1960s, when visionary industrialists collaborated with talented designers to develop technically innovative products in an elegant, modern style.

The current show occupies an area of nearly 230,000 square metres (2,500,000 sq ft), and includes 2,500 companies, along with 700 young designers at the Salone Satellite, a secondary satellite exhibit. About 338,000 people attended the fair in 2012, more than in 2011, but less than 2008’s record of 383,793 visitors.

Stay tuned for follow up posts detailing some of this years “hits and horrors” of the show…

Have a wonderful weekend!

Since the mid 1990’s, Mountain Pine Beetles have ravaged almost 4 million acres of wood in the Rocky Mountains, killing the trees and drying them out causing them to become highly flammable and a major source of forest fires in the region.

The world looked on, and saw a terrible blight.

Corbin Clay, custom furniture designer of The Azure Furniture Company, looked, and saw an opportunity.

The Froc Chair. The Chair that will Grow with your Child!

The Froc Chair. The Chair that will Grow with your Child!

March 04, 2013

Buying furniture, especially a chair or high chair for your toddler can sometimes be a frustrating process. They grow up so fast, don’t they! It seems they outgrow everything so quickly, requiring you to continually buy more, slightly larger versions of the same piece of furniture. Wouldn’t it be great if you could buy just a single high chair, and actually have that chair grow with your child from toddler-hood until as late as 10 or 12 years old?

That’s where the Froc comes in.

Designed by Slovenian outfit Gigodesign, the Froc high chair can be adjusted and modified to be usable for all kids from ages 6 months to 10 years.

The Froc has three adjustable sections: the seat, the footrest and the backrest. It starts out as a regular high chair for toddlers, complete with a high footrest and a wraparound protective belt. As the years pass, you can remove the belt, as well as adjust the chair and footrest heights. When your child’s big enough, just remove the armrests and footrests, lower the chair to its minimum height, and use it like a regular seating furniture.

Weight support is handled by a solid leg with four extensions for stability, ensuring the chair keeps its balance even when your child leans over and makes sudden movements. It’s easy to assemble, too, requiring just a few minutes to put together from a fully disassembled mode.

Brad Pitt, Actor, Director and…Furniture Designer!?

Brad Pitt, Actor, Director and…Furniture Designer!?

November 16, 2012

So there’s been this rumor going around that some guy named “Brad Pits” or “Bradly Pitt” or something, has announced he is now a furniture designer, and everybody is going crazy about it! The New York Times did a write up on it, People Magazine, the Huffington Post, and now I can hardly get through my morning coffee without some newbie here at the office coming up to me and gushing something like “did you hear…!?” or “Is it true…!?”. Really! Come on people! How many times have we heard this before! Some no-name loser, who couldn’t make it in the real world, quits his dead end job at the local gas station and decides ( the following is to be read while doing your best Homer Simpson impression,) “Hey! I know…I will design furniture!”

A Message from Madison Seating in the Wake of “Frankenstorm” Sandy.

A Message from Madison Seating in the Wake of “Frankenstorm” Sandy.

October 30, 2012

On behalf of myself, my colleagues and all of us here at Madison Seating, I would like to take this moment to extend our heartfelt support and sympathy to all our friends and neighbors, who, over the last 24 hours, have endured and weathered what very well might have been the worst super-storm to hit the Atlantic Coast in over 100 years.

From Narragansett RI., to Snowshoe W.VA., and particularly in the coastal towns like those of south Jersey, the 95+ mph winds of “Frankenstorm” Sandy blew away homes, caused tremendous storm surges, and dumped countless feet of rain and snow on much of the Atlantic Northeast.

Thankfully, while even the loss of a single life is a tragic and sorrowful event, news sources indicate that actual loss-of-life totals seem to be remarkably low, thank G-d, largely due to the preparatory measures and warnings issued by our government and federal institutions, who were decisive and well prepared, and to the various news media outlets who kept us in the know with their crucial and timely updates. To all of you, from the very bottom of our hearts, we salute you and we thank you.
