Trending: Mirrored Furniture

February 04, 2013

Mirrors have the unique and impressive  design ability to visually expand your space while adding a touch of style. Traditionally, a household mirror, or “looking glass” as they were archaically know, was a primarily functional item, that although decorative and at times ornate, was mostly used for the practical purpose of self-grooming or admiring oneself.

Recently, growing market trends have begun to take advantage of the “Mirrored” concept and have expanded its role in modern furniture design. Lately, mirrored accents have been appearing on everything from desks and dressers to coffee tables and even wastebaskets. The trend appears to have gained real traction with consumers and it seems a new mirrored furniture design comes out every few months.

Freaky Furniture Friday

Freaky Furniture Friday

February 01, 2013

It’s Friday people, so let’s get freaky!

This collection of freaky furniture combines elements of the morbid and macabre. Personally I struggle to understand the mind that has dedicated itself to the conceptualization and creation of these pieces, but hey, who am I to judge right? after all, I am posting them on my blog…

Needless to say, we don’t actually carry any of these unorthodox furniture pieces at Madison Seating

The Luxurious Appeal of Tufted Furniture

The Luxurious Appeal of Tufted Furniture

January 31, 2013

You know how sometimes you just know something. You feel something. You cant explain it but you know its true. To me, this is one of those things.

Tufted furniture, whether it’s one of those stately, plush, old fashioned tufted leather chairs like the Executive High Back by Office Star or a more contemporarily modern style like the Elizabeth Occasional Chair by Sunpan Modern (both pictured below), there seems to be an added air of luxurious sophistication about these and most other tufted pieces.

Let’s take a look at few of the many tufted wonders out there, including one piece that sells for a whopping $27,000! Shall we…

Design and Re-design! Continuously Customizable Furniture.

Design and Re-design! Continuously Customizable Furniture.

January 25, 2013

It’s every furniture designers worst nightmare – they have just spent months, maybe years channeling their inner creative genius to create the perfect piece of furniture, a true masterpiece. They win awards, appear on the cover of exclusive designer magazines, and their design is forever enshrined and immortalized in the worlds modern art museums.

Sounds pretty good doesn’t it. So what is the nightmare you ask? Well, the nightmare begins a few months or even years later, when, one day while revisiting said celebrated piece of furniture our protagonist suddenly and to his utter horror feels…nothing!  No sense of amazement, no feeling of intense pride and accomplishment, it has lost its quality of novelty, gone is that old sensation of timeless wonder he would experience every time he would glance at his masterpiece. His once transcendental work had become old, boring and obsolete.

Know Your Furniture: History of the Hammock

Know Your Furniture: History of the Hammock

January 24, 2013

For this latest installment of the Know Your Furniture series, I thought we might take a little journey back in time and see if we can’t possibly track down the origin and outline a brief history of a particular furniture piece that seems to have been around forever. The Hammock.

No doubt we are all familiar with contemporary hammocks as they are used in the world around us today. The symbol of carefree leisure, hammocks are a fairly simple and functional concept, a piece of material slung between two trees where one might lounge in the sun or sip an iced tea on a hot day.

Hey y’all,

Sorry for the brief hiatus.

Today I thought we might take a look at a particular furniture design concept that is both innovative and unique as well as being cute and creative. I find myself particularly taken with these pieces in part due to the incredible way that the ingenuity of the design actually enhances the functionality of the furniture, whereas all too often it seems the reverse is true in many contemporary ‘outside of the box’ designs, where so many times the focus is almost exclusively on the aesthetic appeal and the piece itself seems to remain barely functional.

This is very much not the case with the furniture pictured below.

In this latest segment, we will feature what is perhaps the most exotic and feature laden executive chair on the market today.

The Galaxy executive chair by Era Prodcuts, is truly a masterpiece in a class of its own. And it’s gorgeous detailing is only the beginning. Deeply floating  padded cushions support your body and will cradle you in total comfort. Maximizing ventilation while providing individual support zones, the use of multiple panels allows for further ventilation and support that is tailored to position the body for maximum comfort and ergonomic benefit. An adjustable headrest relieves pressure from your head, neck and shoulders.

Hard to believe that all these features can be had at a reasonable price?

Project Zip:per – Unzipping the Full Potential of Furniture Design

Project Zip:per – Unzipping the Full Potential of Furniture Design

January 16, 2013

Curiosity about everyday objects has become, in large part,  the most important motif to korean furniture design studio the zoom.

Their creative genius it seems, lies in their inspirational ability to reinterpret these seemingly mundane and unremarkable everyday objects, a process they refer to as ‘zoom:ing’.

‘Zoom:ing’ takes these objects and, through a combination of vision and skill, turns them into one of a kind furniture pieces that are both functional and a work of art.

In this particular scene, their recent  ‘zip:per’ project yielded a series of bookshelves,
chairs and wine racks that incorporate exaggerated zippers to provide a little humor and added function.
