Holiday Gift Ideas: The Aristocrat Sofa Vs. The Cactus Couch!

Holiday Gift Ideas: The Aristocrat Sofa Vs. The Cactus Couch!

December 04, 2012

So it is getting to be that time of year again folks, Santa’s agent has apparently renewed his exclusive contract with the nations malls, the salvation army is out in force, and the air is full of holiday cheer.

The question now becomes, as it does at this time every year, “how the  **** am I supposed to find gifts for every single person in my life, while still trying to hold down a job and without blowing through my life’s savings!”

Fear not, we at Madison Seating are here to help.

The Powerful and Subliminal Influence of Furniture Colors

The Powerful and Subliminal Influence of Furniture Colors

November 19, 2012

Happy Monday (not!) and welcome back,

Here at the Madison Seating blog, furniture is not only our business but also our passion, and we endeavor to share that passion with the greater furniture loving community at large by touching on a diverse range of furniture related topics. The one aspect of furniture that is perhaps most fascinating of all, (to myself at least) is the apparent subliminal psychological effect certain aspects of our everyday furniture can have on our lives.

I first encountered the phenomenon in an article I posted only a few weeks back entitled “Emotional Instability Caused by…Wobbly Furniture!?”, detailing the apparent effects of unstable furniture on our attitudes and emotional health, but I recently came across an equally fascinating article on the psychological impact individual colors and color combinations and how they affect people in profound, subconscious ways.

Hope you enjoy!

Fresh Fungal Furniture!

November 01, 2012

Good morning all!

Today’s post concerns a particular furniture making material that, to be honest, has yet to grow on me. Even after having having done some extensive research on it, and even with a deeper appreciation for and understanding of this particular method, it is still taking some getting used to.

The material in question- Fungi!

Trick or Treat!

I believe that Halloween is many things to many people. As a kid growing up, Halloween was obviously all about the costumes and candy. As I got older, my diminishing interest in the “Treat” factor greatly increased my tendency to “Trick”,  candy bar received or not. And Just when you hit that age when you have lost most of your interest in both “Tricking” and “Treating”, that is when it seems the cyclical nature of life’s little ironies comes full circle, and the haunter becomes the haunted, and now you are the one who cringes every time the doorbell rings…

Emotional Instability Caused by…Wobbly Furniture?!

Emotional Instability Caused by…Wobbly Furniture?!

Ladies and Gentlemen, friends and neighbors, prepare yourselves for a revelation that will completely alter the way you look at the wobbly furniture in your homes forever! A recent study, conducted by Psychologists from the University of Waterloo, Canada., indicates a strong correlation between wobbly furniture and the desire for emotional stability. I kid you not!

The venerated British newspaper, The Economist, published this study back in July, and claims the study is soon to be published in Psychology Science, the highest ranked peer reviewed, empirical journal in psychology today.

The ‘Take it Outside’ Table

October 18, 2012

The Take it outside Table...

When I first came across this picture of… well… um… this, I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it. Cool? yeah, a little (c’mon, admit it!). Different, certainly. Weird, no question. But seriously, how does something like this even happen?!  I  mean, I understand that for the inspiration for a design like this one need look no further than the nearest fire-hydrant or lamppost, but there is so much about this table that doesn’t sit well with me. Perhaps it’s just a little too much? after all, tables are generally for eating or snacking of some kind, and well, there are some things you just don’t want to be reminded of when you are about to knock back a cold one…  All of which certainly speaks to the satirical nature of the design.
