When I first came across this picture of… well… um… this, I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it. Cool? yeah, a little (c’mon, admit it!). Different, certainly. Weird, no question. But seriously, how does something like this even happen?! I mean, I understand that for the inspiration for a design like this one need look no further than the nearest fire-hydrant or lamppost, but there is so much about this table that doesn’t sit well with me. Perhaps it’s just a little too much? after all, tables are generally for eating or snacking of some kind, and well, there are some things you just don’t want to be reminded of when you are about to knock back a cold one… All of which certainly speaks to the satirical nature of the design.
Incidentally, this table, designed by Judson Beaumont, of Straight Line Designs in Vancouver, B.C., is reportedly being sold for $2920, and can be purchased at coolkidsfurniture.com. Ironically enough, the rug is not included!
Personally, I would suggest the Laguna Living Room Coffee Table Set By Standard Furniture, as a more sensible alternative, the slate tops gives it an earthy feel and are easy to clean, and the tinted glass inserts add interest and movement to the architectural style. And it’s a heck of a lot easier to explain to the kids… Not to mention the hours of confusion it will save your poor little dog…
All that being said, this “yet-to-be-housebroken” table is contemporary, edgy and would make a great conversation piece at house parties and family gatherings.
It’s just not my thing.
